Q: landcruiser?
hi does anyone have a toyota landcruiser for sale i will pay up to £2500 please get in touch. thanks

A: check the autotrader or the trucktrader.

Q: hi anyone selling any toyota landcruiser?
please contact me as soon as possible as i am intrested if you have got one for sale.

A: Check http://autos.yahoo.com
or

http://www.autotrader.com

Q: Nissan Patrol or Toyota Landcruiser??
Please help us decide which to choose, which is better and why? Also how much may I expect to receive as a trade – in or private sale for ‘95 VS Commodore Executive sedan in average condition?

A: it depends what engine you’re looking at- i think they’re both pretty tough. personally i think you get a bit more for your money with patrols and they are very reliable- i don’t have asmuch experience with lancruisers though.
trade in on a vs will be pretty close to bugger all unfortunately.
i’d try for a private sale but the world has gone petrol price crazy, so it might be frustrating to sell.

Q: what sells more per 4X4?
Hey all,

we’re wondering what sells more within Australia and NZ??

Nissan Patrol V’s Toyota Landcruiser

does anyone know any good sites for car sales stats??

thanks.

Mitch and Aaron

A: No expert, but there seems to be a lot more cruisers running around.
They are popular for city folk (class leading power and comfort levels), and for the country (superior dealer/service network).

A great and must read article: 1996 toyota camry

Q: How much should I sell 1996 toyota camry with a locked engine for?
I’m looking to sell/get rid of my 1996 Camry since the engine locked up on it this past weekend. I recently put 1500 dollars worth of work into it with brand new brakes, tires, tune up, starter, struts and shocks. I don’t know if its worth anything now. But everything else was in stunning condition. I don’t feel like spending the 2k to get a new engine in it. How much could I sell it for random parts and whatnot.

A: Car over 10 years old with a locked engine.
won’t get much, maybe sell it in parts if you can go through that

Q: How much would YOU pay for a 1996 Toyota Camry in excellent condition if you knew it had been in an accident?
I got hit in the parking lot, and it damaged the headlight and turning signal. It bent the front reinforcement bar, so the headlight doesn’t sit quite right, but the car is in otherwise excellent condition. Low miles(123,000), maintained at a toyota dealership, no smoking, perfect condition interior. It gets 24mpg in the city, and still has all the stock parts/not modified at all.

It is a 1996 Toyota Camry LE sedan

A: $700.00

Q: 1996 toyota camry check engine light on and code is p0770?
I have 1996 toyota camry and the check engine light on with the code p0770 more then 6 months. It ran 100500 k miles. after viewing the forums I flushed the transmission fluid. But still the light is on. Please suggest me how I can get resolved this problem and where I can approach ?.
Yes the car is running good condition no issue. the problem is that i need to pass the emission test that I have to fix it.

A: Mad Jack is right about the “solenoid E malfunction”. i dont think he is right about a complete trans overhaul. Either one valve or one solenoid (E) is bad or plugged up. A good transmission tech should be able to drop the pan and get to the valve and solenoid pretty easy (there are several). check it, clean it or replace it. i think this is the valve that puts the trans into lock up mode over 50 mph. trans will still operate ok – it just wont go into full lock. If it locks up and wont unlock it couldnt shift or even move right. Beware that most trans shops dont really “work” on transmissions – they just want to flip in a rebuilt for a couple grand – that is all they know how to do. you have to find a real trans tech or look up the stuff yourself. if you get a service manual it is pretty staright forward.

Q: Why do I hear a loud bang noise from rear of my 1996 toyota camry on small bumps?
I’ve been hearing a loud banging noise every time my 1996 toyota camry hits even the smallest bump. The noise comes from rear side and it feels like my whole car pounds against the road? what can be the issue?

A: I’m no mechanic, I just play one on TV.

Sounds like the shocks are bad to me!

Q: how much would it cost to replace cv boot on a 1996 toyota camry?
while putting in new break pads, my son noticed cv boot needed replacing. being lazy he put the new one on over the old one. is this as stupid as i think? how much will it cost for a mechanic to do it? 1996 toyota camry 4 cyl.

A: Probably around $300. Lots of labor involved. Let it go until the joint is trashed and have the whole axle replaced. Won’t cost much more. Maybe it will last until the rest of the car craps out with the split style boot on it.

Q: Do 1996 Toyota Camry stock stereo have connection for amplifier?
I have a 2 channel amplifier and was wondering if i can connect it to a 1996 Toyota Camry stock stereo?

A: all you need is an RCA jack and the remote wire.
if you wanna keep the stock stereo just buy an adapter.

Q: where can i get the gold “CAMRY” letters for the back of a 1996 toyota camry coupe?
I recently bought a 1996 Toyota Camry coupe that is missing the back letters on the trunk lid. Does anyone know where I can get these in gold?
I already called teh dealership and they told me that I have to buy the entire trunk lid, which would cost over $300.

A: I do not beleive they come in gold, but rather in chrome. There should be someone in your town to gold plate the emblems. This is what most dealerships do.

Q: How much does wiring job cost for a radio, clock, side mirrors on 1996 Toyota Camry cost?
I have a 1996 Toyota Camry LE and my son put a penny in the cigarette outlet when the car was off. The clock, radio, side mirrors(powered), and cig lighter are completely out. I’ve replaced all the 15’s and the one 20A fuses. And it still doesn’t work so now I’m thinking it’s a wiring problem. Anyone know of the cost for said job. Thank you ^_^

A: Pick up a Haynes or Chilton’s shop manual, then review the wiring diagram for that circuit. It is possible that it blew a fusible link, or a fuse you have not located. Very unlikely that the wiring is damaged, that’s what the fuses protect. An inexpensive Volt-ohm meter or 12V test light might prove handy.

Q: 1996 toyota camry. What kind of motor oil does it use?and how many qts does it use?
I just purchased a 1996 Toyota Camry without a Owner’s Manual.So i’m looking for informations regarding Motor Oil.What’s weight?Such as 5W-30,30W-40 or others.Thx.

A: I have a 93 and we use 10-30 and it takes 5 quarts, mine is a four cylinder.

Q: 1996 Toyota Camry V6 XLE starter problems?
I have a 1996 Camry, V6 XLE with about 175k miles on the clock. Recently when I started the car in the morning to go to work, the starter worked but it kept ‘clicking’ as the engine started. I was concerned so I turned the engine off, but the starter was still ‘clicking’. I had to take the key out of the ignition and disconnect the battery for the ‘clicking’ to stop. I recently bought a replacement starter, but I am wondering the cause of this problem as well as if there are any additional parts I may need to purchase to fix this problem. My boyfriend (an amateur mechanic) keeps telling me that I need to buy a new ignition switch or an igntition lock column. Every mechanic I have talked to over the phone says that I need a new starter, but I am not sure who to believe. Any ideas??

A: I had the same thing happen to me in a 1998 Suburban after I had bought a new battery for it. I didn’t think it was the starter or the solenoid because the clicking sound was coming from the steering column. It turned out to be the ignition lock cylinder, about $60.00 plus labor.

Q: My 1996 toyota camry 4 dr sedan check engine light is on due to trouble codes p0115/p0340. How do I fix this?
My 1996 toyota camry 4 dr sedan check engine light is on due to trouble codes p0115/p0340. How do I fix this problem. What parts do I have to purchased to fix the problem.

A: I have an 88 toyota pickup and had the same problem with the engine light. Try taking the positive battery cable off for a few seconds and then put it back on and see if that does the trick. Not too sure though, since it’s newer than mine.

Q: wat can i use to make my own side skirts for my 1996 toyota camry?
i recently bought a full body kit for my 1996 toyota camry 4 dr. but i think the side skirts look pretty ugly.. im on a low budget and i was wonder where i can buy the material to make my own at home?? n wat will i need? please help. thanks

A: Well….. Fiberglass is a fairly cheap material that a lot of Body Kits use.

But it requires you to make a mold then lay Mat down, then resin.

It’s very messy and something as large as a Side Skirt will cost a pretty good amount in Materials, plus the cost of the mold (that you’ll most likely destroy in the process.).

You might have to buy new ones you like better. It will probally be cheaper in the long run.

Q: I NEED HELP FINDING A CHEAP BODY KIT FOR MY 1996 TOYOTA CAMRY?
does anyone know where i can find a very cheap full body kit for my 1996 4 door toyota camry? i searched the internet for some but they were just over my budget. please help me!

A: Try JC Whitney Co, the might have them

Q: Does anyone know how I would find out how much tags will be for a 1996 Toyota Camry in the state of Colorado?
Does anyone know how I would find out how much tags will be for a 1996 Toyota Camry in the state of Colorado, OR know how much it will be themselves? I live in Arapahoe county if that makes any difference.

A: Go to www.mv.state.co.us

Q: 1996 toyota camry with shortage problem?
i have 1996 toyota camry,on my camry everytime i turn the ac my ac fuse keep blowing than i put another compressor in it still doing the same thing.i put a 40 size fuse in it it hasnt blown yet but i know its not right put wron size fuse..what do you think i should do???

i think there is a shortage

A: Take out the oversized fuse!!! By doing this you risk further damage, in the worst case a fire. You probably have a short circuit or perhaps a faulty connection. Short circuits are not easy to find, I suggest you talk to your mechanic – probably the one that replaced your compressor since that did not solve the problem.

Q: does anyone know where i can find a volkswagen beetle for sale?
where could i find a volkswagen beetle for sale in the lubbock texas area or around there? please i am desparate!!
i want a classic beetle like 1976 or so. im not a big fan of the newer models

A: try here.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/

Q: Is anyone having a Volkswagen Beetle for sale in Kenya, that is in good running condition?

A: Yes, I have one for sale but yet to decide the offer price. Will let you know.

Q: Where can I find a ‘63-’72 Volkswagen Beetle for sale cheap?
I am looking for a cheap ‘63-’72 Volkswagen Beetle for sale in Fresno County, California.

A: Thesamba.com
they have all kinds of Vws for sale, just search for the type /year/model/ area you want and it will give you a list of VW Bugs that meets your search criteria

Q: I have a 2007 pink Volkswagen New Beetle for sale – where is the best place to list this rare find?

A: autotrader.com

Q: Volkswagen 1972-1975 Super Beetle for sale??
Hi,
Does anyone know where I could find a Volkswagen Super Beetle 1972-1975 for less than $5000? It doesn’t need to be restored but it needs to run. Thanks for the help

A: here ya go beetle.com

Q: what is the average selling price of a 1968 volkswagen beetle?
There is a 68 vw beetle for sale down by my house that is $3800, but would it be possible to talk him down to $3000. The car is a fairly good looking car. The engine runs fine. They have custom painted it themselves using what looks like spray paint. What should the price of that vehicle be?

A: you can check ebay and see what they are going for. That is a very cool and fairly popular car. Be sure to check it over for rust.

BTW: The only way to know if he will take 3k is to offer him the money and see what he says. If that is the max you are willing to pay then walk away.

Q: Can I get a pre-1968-style bumper for a 1975 Volkswagen Beetle?
As a kid I had an obsession with the “Herbie the Love Bug” movies. Recently I found a 1975 Volkswagen Beetle for sale in town, complete with the Herbie decals – numbers and racing stripes. I’m thinking about buying it, but it is something that I’d want to improve over time. I noticed that it currently has the flat bumpers without the “over tubes” like the pre-1968 models. To me this is a defining characteristic of the Herbie character and I’m sure at some point I would want to replace these with the older style. I can’t find a definitive answer, but the sites I’ve found it seems the only bumpers available for a particular year are in the style that is consistent with the original. I guess what I want to know is if anyone makes the older style bumper that may be installed on a 1975 model.

Thanks!
Tim
After a bit more research I found conversion brackets on the following site, but the description says they are for ‘68 – ‘73. But I read somewhere where someone said they got pre-1968 bumpers for their ‘74 Beetle on this site. Are brackets for ‘74+ models no longer available, or is the ‘68 – ‘73 description inaccurate?

http://www.mamotorworks.com

A: in 1974 they used the shock absorber bumper brackets. you would have to buy new http://www.mamotorworks.com/acvw-volkswagen-beetle-sheet-metal-1-72-9789.html

“Z” and “k” replacement panels for 68-73 bugs. that is unless its a super beetle. then the “k” from the list will NOT fit. supers and standards are the same from the ‘A’ frame back

Q: 1978 convertible volkswagen beetle?
theres a 1978 vw beetle for sale near to me and its for sale for $5200. Is that a good deal? the outside is in very good condition and the inside needs just minor repairs to the floor. i dont know cars so i have no idea if its a good deal or not. please help!
here’s a picture i took of the car

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x195/pinkice506/10878702066_ORIG.jpg

A: it’s too old and too expensive

your paying for the cute or novelty factor

for $4,000 you can buy a car from 1998, for $5K to $6,000 a 2000.

it’s just not worth that to anyone but a collector or someone who owned one once and wants to relive the past.

it might be a fun car for weekends or summers in Fla but not for your daily driver

Q: 1972 Volkswagen for sale?
We were at the Pasco bug jam yesterday. They set a new world record for stuffing 16 people in an old style VW beetle. However we saw out in the parking lot a 1972 VW beetle convertible for sale.It had a new motor, clutch.top boot, tires and stereo. No visible rust or paint fade. They were asking $3500.00. Is this a reasonable price?

A: Only if they have ALL the paper work, like all the work orders. And if they say a friend did it well then you should have it checked over by a shop. They will tell you whats up.
Remember that if it seems to good to be true, then it is.
$3500 for a convertible is low, get it checked.

Q: How would a 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle be on gas?
I had a Toyota Corolla but (shockingly) the engine went out in it so I’m in desperate need of a new car. There is a Super Beetle for sale near me and its going for $1,500. Theres not anything really wrong with it and its not too expensive so it would be perfect for me. I have a friend that works at a shop so if anything goes wrong with it he can fix it, so thats taken care of. My main concern, as you would guess with the rising gas prices, is a car thats not going to cost me a fortune at the pump.
About how many MPG (city, highway, on average) do you think I would get with it?

A: Probably not a whole lot. My guess would be between 14-18. Remember, those cars were popular around a time when gas prices weren’t an issue. I don’t think the ‘78 beetle’s tanks are too big either so you might be at the pump more often than most.

The mechanics and electrics on the car may not be a problem, but I wouldn’t recommend this car as a gas saver.

Q: How reliable are Volkswagen Beetles?
There is a 1999 VOLKSWAGEN NEW BEETLE GLS for sale for $5400 that I am interested in but i’m not sure if its worth the price or not. It has 147,000 miles on it and that was my biggest deciding factor. Can anyone tell me if it is worth buying and is 147,000 miles is a lot for a beetle. Thank you!

A: Too many miles, too much money. Make sure you have plenty of money for parts and repairs. Very unreliable, read the links.

Q: Im looking for a ‘63 Volkswagen Beetle that runs and is cheap?
I really want ‘63…’69…or a ‘72 Volkswagen Beetle that is legal, runs great, cheap, and is for sale in Fresno County, California. It would be my first car.

A: Being from the Bay Area and driving a VW myself, I would suggest that you will find your best shot in Craigslist. (www.craigslist.org). There are quite a few VW’s there in various states and conditions.

You should be able to find one within a 200 mile radius of Fresno easily. If you want to go further, there are a ton of them in Oregon for some unknown reason.

You should look into the car models before you buy and consider your skills. THere are subtle and expensive differences between the cars you cite.

Prior to 66 the cars were 6volt systems.. This means you will have a problem with electrical things (adding radios, accessories,, etc..).

From 71 on there were Bugs and Super Bugs.. different suspensions.. one is easy to maintain (Bugs) and one is better to ride (Super Bugs).

They made an automatic (sort of) model.. avoid it like the plague unless you have a lot of money…

and so on..

Convertibles are expensive.. OLD bugs are expensive.. etc..

But the car is a classic and a lot of fun to drive.. If you have never had one be sure to get a maint. book to help you repair it.. (repairs are generally easy and simple).

good luck…and enjoy your bug..

.

Q: Why was the original style VW Beetle not offered for sale in the USA when it was still for sale in Mexico?
Volkswagen just stopped producing the old-style Beetle in 2005 but it has not been available in the US for about 30 years. Why???

A: Maybe it is because they are trying as new marketing technique or something.

Q: Is it better for economy when people spend more money?
Lets say most people buys $100,000 for 1963 Volkswagen Beetle, but everyone found out that there is store that sales $50, 000 for 1963 Volkswagen Beetle. This store sales way cheaper than other store, even the product of cars are exactly the same, like Ford,Dodge, etc, so everyone buys buys cars from this store, and everyone spend less. Will this make economy bad? It is better for economy to spend more?

A: The less price, theoretical should indicate an increase in efficiency. If this is the case then it is not bad to spend less for the same item. Remember profits are an indication of were resources should be expended. If a business can sell an item for less, then over time there profits will climb meaning that they will make more money (law of diminishing marginal cost). This would actually mean that out economic activity would climb.

Now if however spend in the entry economy would drop off. They growth would too according to the Solow model. That would mean a less optimal output and a economy that could be “better”.

Q: I have a 1973 original VW Beetle, manual transmission for sale. How much should I ask (US Dollars)?
The car is not running and my neighbor has expressed interest in purchasing the car. Because of it’s age, the online car pricing websites are not much help.

A: Check eBay and Craigslist for your area. Depending on condition that show run anywhere from 500 for one with rusted floors and non-working engine to 15000 for a fully restored.

Q: Any cheap old model VW beetles for sale on internet?
I can’t find any i like, the smaller cute ones are probably the ones i like- it’s for an assignment
thx

A: Yes, they are all over
Ebay
thesamba
craigslist

I look at all 3 daily for the right deal

Q: looking for 1953 to 1968 vw beetles for sale in fort worth tx?

A: Consult Hemmings Motor News or contact one of the local Volkswagen car clubs. Club members usually know where good cars are.

Q: Can I find a split window beetle for sale close to Miami,FL? What would be the cheapest?
I don’t really need it to run, but it wouldn’t hurt. Lately I have been wanting to start on my first project car. I have Narrowed it down to the old VW Beetle (1953 and older) with the rear oval shaped split-window. I don’t have a whole lot of money to spend but I am very enthusiastic about this new project. Thank you.

A: Honestly, I could just tell you to forget it, but head over to thesamba.com and start reading. A split window beetle(rarest, most expensive) is not where you start in the vw hobby unless you have deep pockets or atleast alot of knowledge.

What are your plans for this project?

Q: Brand New Classic VW Beetles for Sale! Any good?
http://www.apple2000.com/

A: Not sure how current that site is, because they stopped building Beetles in Mexico like 4 years ago. At $1.99 to the British pound, these cars would cost about $15,000 plus shipping.
If these are, in fact, Mexican or Mexican-spec Beetles, built from leftover parts or with leftover tooling, last I knew they couldn’t be brought into the US for a few reasons, mainly Emissions specs.

Update: Heard back from them, & they assured me that the cars would meet Federal emissions standards. Containerized shipping as fas as NYC would run you about $1750. Apparently, they are being built new, using the retired tooling from the Puebla, Mexico plant.
If you think it’s worth the $17,000, go for it, but check with your local DMV first to make sure they’ll register it.
They also mentioned using the new Classic as a donor car, whatever that’s supposed to mean… (donate everything except the number plate? to an older pre-emissions car?)

Q: How to find vehicle pricing for a 1969 VW Beetle?
I’m looking to buy a 1969 VW Beetle that I found for sale in my city, but I want to know the blue book value or something similar so I know if the asking price is fair. Does anyone know where to look? Kelly Blue Book only let us check pricing on a vehicle dating back to 1987. Help?

A: If you really want to know what it is worth whether selling or buying from a dealer or private owner and you are withing the US then go to Kelly’s blue online I have the link below. You can find out any value or pricing whether new or old on there and also check out a consumer’s report on it and see what you get although I have never used consumer reports before. But Kelly’s Blue Book is the best!!!

Dag I jumped the gun on this one but give Consumer reports a try.

Kelly’s Blue Book

( Just Copy And Paste it into your browser)

http://www.kbb.com/kbb/default.aspx?trid=3&gclid=CMyzgZm_yooCFQ4hgQodoCxU1w

Q: ’70’s VW Super Beetle: A good daily driver?
Hey Everyone, I found a ‘73 VW Super Beetle for sale for about $6,000. It’s been restored and it looks great. Just wondering: how good a “good-weather” (only driven on non-rainy/snowy days) daily driver does it make? Are they reliable? Safe? Thanks in advance to all who answer!!!

A: I drove a 1968 VW bug for 17 years. I got good at tinkering under the little rear ‘hood’. But it drove pretty well in bad weather. In hot weather it will stall out because the engine is air cooled and if the air outside is hot, the engine just stops until it can cool off. But nothing is cuter than a bug.

Q: Is the VW New Beetle a cool car for a guy to buy?
I’m looking to buy my first car, and I found several VW New Beetles for sale within my price range. I remember when I was in Middle school, I went to a mall and I checked one out at a mall and I thought it was really cool because it was small, got good gas mileage, and had a nice interior.

However, would the New Beetle be cool for a guy to buy? I’ve heard several people say that they are mostly girl cars. Would a New Beetle be cool for a guy in the right color (dark blue, black, etc)?

A: For your first car its ok, I also have an beetle for my first car, but I do take some ribbing because of its lack of performance and that mostly middle age women drive them.
Gas mileage is ok but not what you would expect of a sub compact car (20-25mpg) but it gets you where you need to go. The view is great, when driving there is virtually no blind spots. Road handling is good, I can take corners from 12-18mph.
The downsides: if the car has over 100k miles you may need a trans rebuild sometime in the near future because VW uses a sealed transmission, there is barely any AM radio reception, and don’t expect to get from 0-60mph in a hurry either.
Overall an ok car.

Q: How much is a VW 1300 beetle worth?
Well I’m looking for a summer project and i came across this VW beetle 1300 for sale.

It doesn’t start at all, needs 4 new tires, New window and probably a lot of other things.

Just wondering how much it would be worth on average…

Also, could the price be in either American Dollars or Australian Dollars please.

And are they hard to fix? E.g Is the Engine complicated and hard to fix and repair?
It is a 1966 I believe, Will need new oil, Spark plugs, Basically everything new and I will have to clean out the engine.

A: One of the reasons these cars are still sought after is their simplicity, durability and ease of repair. I recommend getting a shop manual for it. It would show how to do all the things it will need to “come back to life”. Regarding value, I have seen them sell for around $1000 in similar condition as you describe. One thing to look for is rust, especially around the battery area. Parts are readily available from several sources. I don’t know why someone here recommended against buying one because he thinks the “air cooled sound” is horrid. That has nothing to do with what you asked. Good luck and have fun.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com

Q: 1987 Crown Victoria for Sale, Good Deal?
http://dallas.kijiji.com/c-Cars-vehicles-Cars-under-5K-1987-Ford-Crown-Victoria-W0QQAdIdZ20947962

I saw this recently and I was wondering if it is a great find or a total rip-off. If we assume it is as advertised, and there are no major problems upon inspection, would that be a reasonable price? Were mid-80’s Crown Vics well-made, or are there better years for them? Were there any common problems with this model in those years? Finally, how much money would I likely be shoveling into this sucker for maintenance, since it’s 20 years old?

Thanks everyone for you answers!

A: I wouldn’t pay $2500 for it. You need to talk to the actual owner of the car. How can you take the word of her son who drove it only a couple of times. Ask lots of questions. You are going to have to “shovel” out money for maintenace. Any 20 year old car that is just a givin. If you can wait a while I would save up money and buy a relatively newer car. You don’t want to pay $2500 and then have to pay another $2500 in repairs.

Q: What does the gas mileage look like for a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria?
the place im working at this summer currently has a 1993 Crown Victoria for sale for about $1500. i might be able to work it out so i can do a payment plan. its a very nice car and i like it, i think it would make a great first car for me but what does the gas mileage look like with this kind of car?
i mean it is a nice car. it has about 117,000 miles on it which is not bad but my only concern is with gas mileage as everyone is telling me “its going to get crappy gas mileage” however the good thing about me is that i walk when a place isnt so far and i dont go out a lot. but i think it is a great looking car and i like it. the interior is nice and looks almost new and i like it but the gas mileage is the only concern i have

A: 15 city/24 hwy it all depends on where you drive and how you drive. That 5.0 will suck gas if you kick it..

Q: How much would a windshield replacement cost on a 1989 Ford Crown Victoria LTD?
There’s a 1989 Ford Crown Victoria LTD for sale in my town, and the windshield is cracked a tiny bit (maybe 5 inches across) on the passenger side on the top, right under the roof. Can I leave it like that, or do I have to replace it? if I have to replace it, how much would I pay for a replacement? Can someone give me some stats on the car as well, like:
How many MPG’s does it get?
How much gas does it take?
Horsepower?
Handling?
Does it have ABS and TCS?
How many miles can you drive it for (e.g., I heard the old Checker Cabs can get up to over 500,000 miles)?
Is it a good first car?
Are parts hard to find for it?
How many airbags are in it?
How much would I spend to fill up the gas tank?
How big is the gas tank?
Any other information would be helpful, too.

A: Windshield may cost around 150 to 200 installed. If the crack is less than six inches then you can get one of those windshield repair companies to fix it for around 50 bucks.

Crown Vics have been a staple for the law enforcement community since the mid 70’s and have a proven track record of good reliability. If maintained you can get many more miles out of it virtually problem free.

They have 18 gallon tanks and usually get 15-18 M.P.G.. Replacement parts are very easy to locate as this was (and still is) a very popular vehicle. They are comfortable and due to the sheer size of it rather safe to ride in.

If it has an air bag it would be on the steering wheel only and I doubt one that old would be equipped. I think A.B.S was standard and traction control was not an option.

As for a first car, Definately YES.

Q: Any 1955 FORD SUNLINER CROWN VICTORIA SUNLINERS (glass top) out there FOR SALE?
My father is interested in buying one. Anyone one out there have one they are interested in selling? If so, where are you located and what is your asking price? Please send me a message at my Y/A email address. Thank you in advance.

A: Your best bet for these cars is on EBAY.COM they have a large variety of cars for sale. There is no such thing as a Sunliner Crown Victoria. The Sunliner is the 1955 56 soft top convertable, that name plate is used up to 1962. The 1955 56 Crown Victoria is the 2 dr custom roof and some have the optional glass roof.

I did look on ebay and saw a 55 Sunliner convertible for sale. I attached that link also. Good luck on your hunt and check with local car clubs they might have connections near you also.

Q: where can find a 2006 new Ford Crown Victoria P-71 Police Interceptor for sale?
all i can find are used p71 Interceptors

A: You can’t buy a new one unless you are a government agency. Ford has it’s ways of certifying…. Basically the car however is just a stipped CV with added wiring and dual exhaust.

Unless you can find a agency who wouldn’t mind helping you get one, your best bet maybe the taxi version (minus the police wiring)

Q: How do I sale a car on the internet?
1993 Classic Caprice for sale and a Crown Victoria. The Caprice cost $1,000 and the Crown Vic cost $600.00 can’t beat that.

A: nice ad. now try it on craigslist.org so you can put contact info

Q: What are the legalities about a Crown Vic?
I was looking at a black crown victoria police interceptor for sale, it has concealed blue/red flashers and head/tail light strobes, it also has a PA system. I know its illegal to use the reds/blues on public roads but where could you use them and are they legal to even have on the car?
Rhode Island

A: 1. All of that equipment should have already been removed before the sale..

2. If not everything that you have mentioned is completely illegal..

3. Once bought you would need to remove this before driving it…

Q: is the Ford Crown Victorial Police Interceptor for sale brand new to civilians?
i’ve would like if the ford crown victoria with the police interceptor package is available for private citizens. i want a 2007 ford crown victoria with the factory police interceptor package with the dual exaust and stuff. complete with the black out grille and the “police interceptor” badge in the back. don’t worry, i’m not gonna but lights on it or stuff like that. just want a tough car that can take it all.

A: Check with your local Ford dealer. They can likely order it for you. If they say no, call several other dealers. Someone will order it for you. No one is going to have one on the lot to sell.

Q: How Much is Valve Job For Ford Crown Victoria 96″ ?
Because I am looking to purchase one…and one is on sale for 600$ but the seller says it needs a Valve Job. anyone??

A: It really depends. You can do it yourself pretty cheap. The gaskets and parts will run about 200. If the seats need to be machined, it will run $600 just for the machining. If you have it done somewhere, it will be a couple grand.

Q: Can I relocate my fuel tank to the trunk like a street rod, on my 1992 crown victoria? would it be safer?
I just bought the car for $1000 dollars and then, I hear about all of these safety concerns with the fuel tanks exploding in these cars with hard rear impacts due to the tank being located behind the rear axle. I’m about to put it up for sale due to this fact alone.

A: HI
the only way it would be safer would be if you used a fuel cell that the racers use.
They been putting gas tanks behind the axles for YEARS.
just the unlucky of the draw.
good luck
tim

Q: I need to purchase an “ATC sensor assembly” for a 1985 Ford Crown Victoria.?
Anybody have one for sale? It is for my 85 year old Mom’s car. I live in Rancho Cordova, California near Sacramento.
Thank you for your time!

A: Are you asking about an air charge temperature sensor? Have you checked your local parts stores? I’m not being a smart-alec, here. Your mom’s car is 27+ years old and some parts may no longer be available from parts stores.

You can also check with a junk yard in the area. Most junk yards participate in an on-line database so that they can get you almost any part you need.

You can also check e-bay. You can get, literally, anything on e-bay.

Q: Can somebody help us to find a hit and run that hit my son on Father’s Day 6/15/08?
The accident was in Miami, FL 82 Avenue & Coral Way. The car was a yellow (like a taxi) Ford Crown Victoria with a For Sale sign. 3 person inside the car. Around 8:00 pm

A: Have you contacted the Miami police department? That would be your best bet.

Q: Question about acceleration noise on a 2002 Crown Victoria?
I am wanting to buy a car I see for sale online. Below is exactly how the seller is describing the car. What kind of trouble do you think this car is having? he talks about a clicking noise! ???
2002 Crown Victoria with 150,000 miles. The steering wheel has a vibration and pulls to the right. slightly spongy brake pedal.
***There is a clicking or ticking noise when you accelerate.
THANKS!

The vehicle comes with a good spare tire and jack.

The vehicle also has plugged holes on the roof.

A: vibration= out of balance tire/wheel, tire with bulge in it, tire with broken steel belts, or bad alignment.
spongy brake pedal= water saturated brake fluid, leaking brake booster, or leaking/disconnected brake booster vacuum line.
clicking noise on acceleration/revving in park, neutral= exhaust leak, bad wheel bearing, bad driveshaft universal joint.

plugged holes in roof makes me think it was a cop car, sounds like this one would be a good one to pass over unless youre hurting for a car right now but by the sounds of things it may not live too long. cop cars usually get used harder than rental cars, so keep that in the back of your mind while making a decision.

Q: Does anyone know where to find Crown Victorias in the Metro Detroit area?
Besides M97 auto sales.

I’m looking for 1998 and up crown vics/retired police cars.

Thanks for your help.

A: Craigs list, there you go.

Q: If you could afford it, what would be your dream car?
I would have to win the lotto, but my “dream car” would be a 1-year-old (used) Crown Victoria Police Car. You can see them for sale on the internet under ‘used police cars.’ I would want it in glossy black, with black “stealth” PURSUIT reflective lettering on both sides, big lettering, door to floor size. I want the white strobes, lots of them. Navy blue cloth interior. 8 speakers and gps. 5 point seat belts, red! Dark window tinting. Custom license plate on the back NOTACOP. Oh to dream. I never understand why people always want the most expensive cars. They just say money, if you know what type of cars they are. Most people do not, drive up in a Bentley 4-door sedan and everyone is wondering “what is it?” and have NO clue as to the price. My car would be one-of-a-kind and a blast to drive. Never could afford to buy and custom-build one, family and bills. But it is nice to dream…

What’s your dream car?

A: My dream car? I have no Idea, but if I had a car I liked it’d be a totally pimped Rolls Royce, Hey, even 13 yr olds can dream of some high class cars.

Q: Honda Civic???
Im 15 years old, i have a 2001 VW jetta, i want to sell the jetta and buy a 98-00 Honda Civic manual trasnmition. I want to tune it up with a nice body kit, muffler tip and spoiler. Do yall think its a good idea, or should i buy another type of car that goes fast?
Or what other car is good to customize, somthing not more than $18,000

A: wow u gota big budget…ur set..u tryin 2 go big get urself a 99-00 SI and with the rest of da money tune it…dat b16a2 will go far with some money invested…or get urself a 91-95 ex nd swap da d16z6 with any b series…make sure it has vtec..and it fits the bay without 2 much modifications…and ur set…and w.e u have left…get more performance parts..u dun really need a spoiler and a big muffler tip unless u want it…many people mite call u a “ricer’ for having such mods..so thats all up 2 u

Q: honda civic?
iight guys this is the whole thing i gotta honda civic 95 and its automatic, how much would i need to convert it to a stick shift??? or is there a shop that i can have it done?????

A: no it does not go to another place to answer ?’s it will cost as much as the junkyard will sell it for no more then 700 the only thing is you will need to buy a new clutch i would not get it from a junkyard everything bolts right up except the shift linkage you will need to drill 2 holes on the bottom of the car after you take the auto assembly out but other than that your good the 92-95 civics should already have the bracket there for the clutch pedal so good luck

Q: honda Civic?
Is their any way to make my 2001 honda civic go faster without having to buy parts?

A: take out the passenger seats… and dont put anything in the trunk… This will make your car lighter… which makes it faster.

Q: Honda civic?
Does anyone know when you should replace shocks on a 2000 Honda Civic?

A: They don’t have shocks, they have struts and they last a long time. Check them by driving down the street and see if it bounces as you drive if not then don’t worry about them. If you look under the car at the strut (inside the big spring) and see any fluid running down the strut then they are leaking and have to be changed

Q: Will my little Honda Civic make it from the Midwest to Washington?
I have a 2000 Honda Civic and am planning a move from St Louis to Washington next month. I would like to just take my car and some belongings, but I worry about the car making it through the mountains. Any thoughts?

A: it should make it as long as its been looked after and has decent tyres.
if you are really nervous about it do some checks on it like check the oil and water levels.
if you dont know much about cars ask a mechanic to do the checks first before setting off.

Q: I have an 89 honda civic and I need to convert the injectors from 2 to 4, How can i do it?
I have a 89 honda civic and I bought a vtech engine that came from 94 civic. The 89 civic is 2 injectors and the 94 civic is 4 injectors. What do I have to buy, and how do i Install it in order to convert it from 2 to 4 injectors?

A: I dont remember hondas having 2 injectors or throttlebody injection. but I’ll try to work with the info you gave me. YOu will need the entire engine wiring harness and the computer to run the 4 injectors. step by step intructions are too complicated to put here. You could have picked an easier project like building a bridge to hawaii. I think you got in a little too deep

Q: Why wont my 1989 Honda Civic start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch?
My 1989 Honda Civic will not start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch. I thought it might be the battery, but once I chnaged it, the car did the same thing. Does that mean the clutch has gone bad or is it something else?

A: It could be anything except what you mentioned. Obviously, the clutch and transmission and engine is working great.

Could be just about anything in the charging/starting system. Starter, battery, alternator, switches, or other things. I’d start simple. If you “jump start” the car, does that work? I’d try that and if it works you know the starter and switch is good. If you can’t jump start it then it’s the starter/solenoid, (probably) or maybe a bad wire or switch.
If it does start when “jumped” then I’d suspect the battery. The alternator is a possibility, but you said you charged the battery, so if it was a bad alternator, (causing the battery to go flat due to lack of charging current) then charging the battery would have fixed it temporarily. So that would leave the battery. Even though you applied a charge to it, that doesn’t mean it did charge up. In fact, that’s the definition of a bad battery.
I’ve heard of other more esoteric problems such as faulty switches in the transmission or things like that, so if all the obvious things check out OK then you have to start digging. Good luck

Q: How long did your Honda Civic last before having major problems?
How long (in both miles AND years) did your Honda Civic last, before having major mechanical problems? Please also indicate whether you live in a snowy area or in a place like California where the conditions favor car longevity.

A: we have a 2001 accord (basically the same as a civic) and it has 185,000 miles and counting. there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with it. we live in michigan (snow land). i’d drive it to south america tomorrow if needed. it’s been such a good car to us.

Q: Is the 2010 Honda civic in the same size class as the 2010 Honda accord?
I am trying to persuade my parents into saving more money by buying a Honda civic. I showed them that the gas mileage is better for the civic. Also the starting price is 6,000 dollars cheaper. The last thing I can do to convince them is the safety. How does the safety compare? Are they even in the same class for size? Please help me convince my parents to buy a civic and not an accord!

A: don’t listen to the first guy, he’s a moron. the Civic is a compact, the Accord is a mid-size. the Civic has cheaper insurance and better gas mileage, it used to be a target for theft 10 years ago but not so much recently. as for safety, it may not be as safe as an Accord, but it will still save you in an accident. I walked away from a head-on collison while driving a 2000 Civic, that should be good enough for anything.

Q: Is it honda civic model changing in 2009?
Please somebody let me know weather honda civic model is going to change in UAE in 2009.Cozzz am planning to go for HONDA CIVIC.

A: Umm…car manufacturers (actually most major manufacturers of any technological product) continuously update and release new models/upgrades each year so whatever you do, there’s bound to be new stuff released all the time.

Q: How far can a Honda Civic and a Prius go on Electric mode?
How many miles can a Honda Civic and a Prius go when the battery is fully charged. (civic hybrid and prius hybrid car)

A: Hi,

stay with me and I’ll give you the full answer.

Actually, both vehicles are “full hybrids” meaning they can run under electric-only mode for short distances at low speeds.

The Civic was just upgraded to a full hybrid in 2006, but the Prius has always been a full hybrid.

The Prius system will take you further, up to 25 miles in stop and go traffic, with the regenerative braking system. And the Prius will go faster, up to 25 mph, with careful acceleration.

The Civic system is not able to do either of those marks. It uses Honda’s hybrid system called the “Integrated Motor Assist” and it’s mostly designed to boost the gas engine, not run on electric mode for any length of time.

Essentially, you have two different vehicles. The Prius is a mid-sized sedan that is more equal to a Camry or Accord for features, technology, price, and comfort. The Civic is a compact and is on the same level as a Corolla for features, tech (excluding the IMA), price and comfort.

Not to say either is better than the other for what they do. They are just different, just as the Civic is to the Accord or the Corolla is to the Prius.

One last note, Prius sold in Europe and Asia come with an “EV” mode button. Pressing that button disables the gas engine for city driving. That is where the 25 mph/25 miles distance come into play.

We don’t have that ability here in the US because our driving conditions are too different from theirs to justify having it here. Basically, we drive longer distances in our urban environments and Americans drive faster over those long distances and would overcome the EV mode too easily. (We also don’t get the auto parking option that the Prius’ over there have (similar system on Lexus GS here in the US) because thier parking is so much tighter there on average.)

The Civic isn’t available with an EV mode at all, here or there.

BTW, to answer the previous post…

Computer system updates / changes / etc. for the Prius are covered by Toyota during the 8 year or 100,000 mile warranty period. And a safe bet would be that Toyota would update your Prius any time an update would be needed after that.

Every manufacturer has computer upgrades, even Volkswagen.

And as far as less parts go, Prius have no throttle cables (electronic acceleration), no steering pumps or steering belts (electronic steering), no starters, no alternators, no distributors, each cylinder is individually controlled with it’s own fuel injector, a sealed CVT so no regular transmission, and with the regenerative barking system, you should never have to replace the brake pads because the generator does almost all of your braking.

Anyway, if you’d like any more details, read my other posts or contact me.

Q: What other engines would fit my 2000 honda civic if i wanted to engine swap?
Hi i am looking to engine swap my 2000 honda civic (coupe) and don’t know what other engines fit its body. Like what engines from other stock cars and/or and turbo or improved engines made for the civic are there?
thanks.

A: Any engine will fit any car. i have seen a CRX (really small honda) with a V8 in it. it was a beast. i would go with the K20 as well or second choice a B18, or H22. all three are great engines.

Q: What is the difference between a Honda civic and Honda Prelude? What’s better for upgrading for performance?
I love both the Honda Prelude and Civic hb and plan on getting one of the two soon. I want to have a car that has a lot of options as far as upgrading the performance of the car. Which car would be better for that? I preferably want to stay with Honda, but are there any other cars that are specifically good for what I want that may not be Honda?

A: i would say honda civic. the prelude is more powerfull but kinda heavy. consider also the acura integra..lol, i mean RSX. honda has a huge following, so aftermarket will always be available….search websites to see how much modifications will cost for each car. that might help you decide which is more bang for the buck. also, keep in mind that the accord had a larger engine, but the v6 only came with an automatic.

Q: Is it possible to convert my Honda civic by using an electric forklift motor?
I have heard recently that it was possible to convert my Honda Civic by taking out the traditional gas engine and replacing it with an electric motor from a forklift. Ever hear of someone actually doing this? Typical cost? What level of expertise do you need?

A: Given the extreme labor and cost, plus the size of the battery, forget it. Too many factors to consider, like what gear ratio, how to transmit power to the rear or front wheels, where to place the large batteries, and just how many miles would a charge provide?
Taking the drive train out of ther fork lift would be fine, if 5mph or less would satisfy your needs. In that case, just remodel the fork lift and forget the conversion.

Q: Honda Civic Door Gasket Starting to Fall off. How can I BEST stick it back on?
Hello,
I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX 2-Door. The passenger side door gasket is falling off. It dangles and gets caught in the door. Some moisture gets in and also there is a wind noise issue on the expressway. Anyhow, could someone recommend a good adhesive and technique to get the gasket fully back on the door? Pro and expert answers only please; I could think of paste, superglue, etc on my own. Thanks for your help!

A: Use 3M weather strip adhesive. It is great stuff.

Q: what are the years of pickups you can use to replace a 1999 grille on a chevy tahoe?
Can you use a 1992 chevy truck grille to replace on a 1999 chevy tahoe? Tahoe is wrecked and needs grille found a 92

A: Chevy truck grilles should be interchangeable from 1988-1998. There are just two different styles. If you want one that looks like your original grill look for the years 1994-1998. If you want the old style, look for 1988-1993 grilles.

Q: what size speakers go into a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
I am planning on upgrading all of my speakers in my tahoe and I dont know what sizes I need. Any one who can help please do so.

Q: How do i change the fuel pump on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe Four Door?
my tahoe wont start and i checked all the fuses and i checked the fuel filter. now i bought a cold start engine starter can of aerosol from autozone. and it runs off that but i wont fully turn over and run by itself..

so now my guess is that its the fuel pump that gave out.. any other suggestions?

A: Try a new fuel pump relay,If that don’t work fuel pump is in gas tank. Will have to be removed to replace.

Q: 1999 chevy Tahoe wont start but turns over.?
My 1999 Chevy Tahoe wont start it turns over and I can hear the fuel pump running. I have replaced the plugs and wires, I have spark. It will not start if I pour gas down the throttle body but I do have fuel coming I can see it in the throttle body. Any suggestions please?

A: Crank Sensor
Cam Sensor
Ignition Module.

Can you find someone with a scanner to read codes. That might point you in the right direction.

Q: i want to trade in my 1999 chevy tahoe for a more fuel efficient car?
the thing is I still owe about $9,000 on the tahoe. So what is the best thing to do?

A: get comfortable. You won’t get $9k out of your Tahoe unless you sell it outright. Even then it may come up a little short. You dont mention miles or condition of the car. So assuming the average miles – 12k / yr = 108,000 miles and average condition, your trae value is about $4000 tops.

Add to that, most dealers will not want this car on their lot. So as a trade, they need to look at auction value. Plan on getting about $3-3500 for the car on trade.

If you sell it outright on the streets – you MIGHT get closer to what you owe. if you come up short, you have to make up that difference in cash.

A lot of people – dealers especially – will invite you to trade the car in and roll that negative equity into the new car loan. I strongly caution against this.

If we get really generous and allow $4000 for the trade, that means you are roling an extra $5000 into the new car loan. That $5000 just gets tacked on top of the loan.

In order to get a bank loan that allows an extra $5k added on you need really good credit. And, assuming that you have to do this, I also assume you have little or no down. That means that no matter what you buy, you will be adding $5000 PLUS tax, DMV fees, etc to the next car loan.

You will have to look at a car in the $20K range to have any hope of getting that kind of advance – 125% of the car value + TTL. So, you will end up making payments on $20K, the fees on 20K (about $2000) and the $5k you added to the loan.

You now owe $27,000 on a car worth $20k. When you drive off, that car is worth about $15,000. You are now $12,000 upside down.

but it gets worse. You wont be able to trade out of this new car for at least 4 yrs. Youwill have to make that many payments just to get close to what you will owe.

your payments on that deal will be around $450 for 72 months.

I dont know waht your payments are now. But I bet you can make the payments, absorb the gas costs, and be well ahead of the game if you just tighten up in a few places.

Cheers – good luck – think this over thoroughly

Q: How do you adjust the steering gear box on a 1999 chevy tahoe?
The steering wheel has a too much play for me. How can I fix it?

A: I would check the other parts tie rods, idler arm, ect the gear box has very little adjustment and usually 99% is not the problem. after the parts are replaced the truck will need to be aligned. shop around prices vary in this case even auto zone lifetime are moog parts .good luck

Q: How Do I change the Ball Joints on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
I’m having a hard time making right turns. The power steering fluid is full. The dust boots on the lower ball joints on both sides is cracked. Should I attempt to replace the ball joints myself or just take it to the shop? What would be the average price for all four ball joints to be replaced? Thanks!

A: Raise the front end off the ground, place jack stands under the frame so the front suspension hangs free. Take a long pry bar or a wrecking bar if that’s all you have. Move the lower ‘A’ frames up and down. Grab the tires and see if they move around or feel “loose”. If the ball joints are bad, you’ll see them move. You can also work the steering back and forth and maybe see whats binding. Ball joints are not hard to change, they are not very expensive.

Q: How do I change a signal turn light on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
My blinker on the drivers side is out, and I don’t want to get a ticket. I know it has to be an easy fix.
I cannot see how to gain access to the light compartment.

A: front light? If so then there are 2 L shaped rods on the headlight housing. You turn them and pull them up. Then the whole headlight assembly comes out and you can now get to the blinker light. the rear open the rear doors and you should see 2 screws on each side take out the 2 on the side that is out and the whole plastic light casing will come off.

Q: How do I take apart the inside drivers side door panel on a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
Something fell down there and I need to get to it. Thank you!

A: unscrew and pull

Q: 1999 chevy tahoe starter will only click when i start it?
will the park/neutral switch have any thing to do with the truck not start in
the battery is good it reads 12.8 v when engine off with no key in i can go from p to d

A: If the starter solenoid is the click, then all the interlock switches are okay. Are the headlight & horn okay ?? If the starter is the only electrical thing not functioning, better start looking there.

Q: need to know about a 1999 chevy tahoe any answers out there?
my 1999 chevy tahoe is making noise when i put it in reverse and drive but more in reverse.

A: take it to an automotive shop to let them check it out. or maybe if you have power steering, than you are just low on the fluid. Good luck

Q: What is this growling noise coming from the front left tire area of my 1999 Chevy Tahoe?
At about 55-65 MPH the front driver wheel area begins to growl, especially when I apply gas. What could this be? PLEASE HELP!

A: Your wheel bearing needs replacement

Q: which as the better gas mileage 1999 chevy tahoe or the 1999 ford expedition?
I am in the process of buying a 1999 Chevy Tahoe, but I also have an option of getting a Expedition. I am from the Bahamas and gas prices here are $4.31 a gallon. I am trying to find out which vechile is better on gas. better yet which one is better over all.

A: Here is a side-by-side comparison of the two vehicles you’re considering (using a 1999 Tahoe 2-Door 2WD vs. a 1999 Expedition XLT 2WD):

Base Retail Price (MSRP)
Tahoe: $24,120
Ford: $29,355

Base Invoice Price
Tahoe: $21,105
Ford: $25,687

Kelley Blue Book Price
Tahoe: $9,400 – $10,250
Ford: $10,550 – $11,550

Engine Power, standard
Tahoe: 5.7L 255 hp V8
Ford: 4.6L 240 hp V8

Fuel Economy (miles per gallon)
Tahoe City: 14
Ford City: 13
Tahoe Highway: 18
Ford Highway: 18

Hope this helps!

Q: How much for a Ford F650 Super Truck, and how do i get one?
I want a Ford F650 Super Truck, the 6 door beast, not the 4 door. how much does it cost, for like a 2005, and how do i find one, is it something i go to a dealer and special order, or an online thing, I couldn’t find anything very helpful on it online.

I know that XUV is priced around $170,000, and I’m sure the 6 door is not too far behind it.

Also is maintaining it relatively cheap, like maintaining a regular truck, or is it really expensive, like maintaining a Ferrari or something?

Thanks

A: You must be referring to a conversion job I read about in Motor Trend’s Truck Trend. The $170,000.00 estimate you got is not far off–the F650 is a two-ton chassis-cab available from the factory with daycabs, SuperCabs and Crew Cabs, including a Caterpillar/Allison-equipped SuperCrewZer (the six-door conversion, I believe, tacks an additional crew cab rear section to a factory crew cab). Maintaining this monster IS quite expensive, but somewhat short of most Ferraris in this respect; the F650, a SERIOUS work truck, packs huge four-pot disc brakes on its eight-inch-drop I-beam steer axle, plus sixteen-inch drums on the drive axle.

I recommend the Caterpillar C8 ACERT engine for this platform, as it has the best-sized powerband for a truck that pushes a four-ton curb weight; gearboxes include two Allison automatics and several manuals off a 12″ dual-disc clutch (I recommend the Eaton-Fuller FRO12210B five-plus-five speed, if available, as it will best handle the C8’s 750+ ft-lb @ 1200 RPM). Be advised that the C8 will take four gallons of API CH-4, SAE 15W-40, at an oil change (the Cummins ISB6.7c takes three, as I know from experience with a Cummins 6BTA5.9-equipped Dodge BE2500).

A great and must read article: f650 for sale

Q: Is it possible to take good Pics with a Point and shoot camera?
I have a digital camera,Fuji F650, it is just one I bought on sale and was wondering if it is possible to turn out good pictures with these cameras. I have been trying to get more into the manual mode (which is limited on these types of camera). I am not a photographer just like to take photos of places I go to and interesting things. So any tips or am I just out of luck for getting good pictures?

A: YES.

Q: feasible to drive a 125cc from london to south africa? this a good choice?
my girlfriend and i are thinking of going 2 up on a honda varadero 125:

http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/honda_v…

i estimate it to be about 9000 miles over the course of a year +/- 2000

seen one for sale at £1100 with 1400miles, running and looks the business

i’ll have to make some modifications…. appropriate lights, larger fuel tank and maybe side panniers but i think it will be ok.

we just returned from a year biking in SE asia covering the same sort of distance but on a 250cc honda baja. we will be 2 up but with little/no baggage.

anyone done anything like this?

do you think the bike will cope with 2 people in a harsh climate?

i have experience fixing bikes although this has been limited to japanese sportsbikes and the baja.

any tips?

all answers appreciated

thought about the f650 and 1200gs but I feel they’re just far too big for what is required of them. in asia we rarely went above 50mph (livestock and crazy drivers) and on challenging terrain at slow speed a 600cc+ bike will be murder (i feel)

A: The Africa trip will be a much bigger undertaking than Asia. Whichever route you choose, you’ll need to go thru deserts on unpaved sand tracks. You really have to have an off road bike for Africa.

Also, unlike Asia, many African countries require a carnet de passage which you’ll need to factor into your budgeting & planning. South Africa is one of these countries so can’t sell the bike there when you’re done.

A: The bike would make it but you would go bonkers. It’s too small and whilst this makes it nippy it also makes it tiring on a long drive. You’re talking about 200 – 300 hours. You need a stable bike so you can relax a bit. And you need one with a decent seat so there is room for both to sit comfortably.

250cc would be my absolute minimum.
