Q: Why was the original style VW Beetle not offered for sale in the USA when it was still for sale in Mexico?
Volkswagen just stopped producing the old-style Beetle in 2005 but it has not been available in the US for about 30 years. Why???

Q: I have a 1973 original VW Beetle, manual transmission for sale. How much should I ask (US Dollars)?
The car is not running and my neighbor has expressed interest in purchasing the car. Because of it’s age, the online car pricing websites are not much help.

A: Check eBay and Craigslist for your area. Depending on condition that show run anywhere from 500 for one with rusted floors and non-working engine to 15000 for a fully restored.

Q: Any cheap old model VW beetles for sale on internet?
I can’t find any i like, the smaller cute ones are probably the ones i like- it’s for an assignment :)

There is a 68 vw beetle for sale down by my house that is $3800, but would it be possible to talk him down to $3000. The car is a fairly good looking car. The engine runs fine. They have custom painted it themselves using what looks like spray paint. What should the price of that vehicle be?

A: you can check ebay and see what they are going for. That is a very cool and fairly popular car. Be sure to check it over for rust.

BTW: The only way to know if he will take 3k is to offer him the money and see what he says. If that is the max you are willing to pay then walk away.

A: Consult Hemmings Motor News or contact one of the local Volkswagen car clubs. Club members usually know where good cars are.

Q: Can I find a split window beetle for sale close to Miami,FL? What would be the cheapest?
I don’t really need it to run, but it wouldn’t hurt. Lately I have been wanting to start on my first project car. I have Narrowed it down to the old VW Beetle (1953 and older) with the rear oval shaped split-window. I don’t have a whole lot of money to spend but I am very enthusiastic about this new project. Thank you.

A: Honestly, I could just tell you to forget it, but head over to thesamba.com and start reading. A split window beetle(rarest, most expensive) is not where you start in the vw hobby unless you have deep pockets or atleast alot of knowledge.

A: Not sure how current that site is, because they stopped building Beetles in Mexico like 4 years ago. At $1.99 to the British pound, these cars would cost about $15,000 plus shipping.
If these are, in fact, Mexican or Mexican-spec Beetles, built from leftover parts or with leftover tooling, last I knew they couldn’t be brought into the US for a few reasons, mainly Emissions specs.

Update: Heard back from them, & they assured me that the cars would meet Federal emissions standards. Containerized shipping as fas as NYC would run you about $1750. Apparently, they are being built new, using the retired tooling from the Puebla, Mexico plant.
If you think it’s worth the $17,000, go for it, but check with your local DMV first to make sure they’ll register it.
They also mentioned using the new Classic as a donor car, whatever that’s supposed to mean… (donate everything except the number plate? to an older pre-emissions car?)

Q: How to find vehicle pricing for a 1969 VW Beetle?
I’m looking to buy a 1969 VW Beetle that I found for sale in my city, but I want to know the blue book value or something similar so I know if the asking price is fair. Does anyone know where to look? Kelly Blue Book only let us check pricing on a vehicle dating back to 1987. Help?

A: If you really want to know what it is worth whether selling or buying from a dealer or private owner and you are withing the US then go to Kelly’s blue online I have the link below. You can find out any value or pricing whether new or old on there and also check out a consumer’s report on it and see what you get although I have never used consumer reports before. But Kelly’s Blue Book is the best!!!

Q: ’70’s VW Super Beetle: A good daily driver?
Hey Everyone, I found a ‘73 VW Super Beetle for sale for about $6,000. It’s been restored and it looks great. Just wondering: how good a “good-weather” (only driven on non-rainy/snowy days) daily driver does it make? Are they reliable? Safe? Thanks in advance to all who answer!!!

A: I drove a 1968 VW bug for 17 years. I got good at tinkering under the little rear ‘hood’. But it drove pretty well in bad weather. In hot weather it will stall out because the engine is air cooled and if the air outside is hot, the engine just stops until it can cool off. But nothing is cuter than a bug.

Q: Is the VW New Beetle a cool car for a guy to buy?
I’m looking to buy my first car, and I found several VW New Beetles for sale within my price range. I remember when I was in Middle school, I went to a mall and I checked one out at a mall and I thought it was really cool because it was small, got good gas mileage, and had a nice interior.

However, would the New Beetle be cool for a guy to buy? I’ve heard several people say that they are mostly girl cars. Would a New Beetle be cool for a guy in the right color (dark blue, black, etc)?

A: For your first car its ok, I also have an beetle for my first car, but I do take some ribbing because of its lack of performance and that mostly middle age women drive them.
Gas mileage is ok but not what you would expect of a sub compact car (20-25mpg) but it gets you where you need to go. The view is great, when driving there is virtually no blind spots. Road handling is good, I can take corners from 12-18mph.
The downsides: if the car has over 100k miles you may need a trans rebuild sometime in the near future because VW uses a sealed transmission, there is barely any AM radio reception, and don’t expect to get from 0-60mph in a hurry either.
Overall an ok car.

Q: How much is a VW 1300 beetle worth?
Well I’m looking for a summer project and i came across this VW beetle 1300 for sale.

It doesn’t start at all, needs 4 new tires, New window and probably a lot of other things.

Just wondering how much it would be worth on average…

Also, could the price be in either American Dollars or Australian Dollars please.

And are they hard to fix? E.g Is the Engine complicated and hard to fix and repair?
It is a 1966 I believe, Will need new oil, Spark plugs, Basically everything new and I will have to clean out the engine.

A: One of the reasons these cars are still sought after is their simplicity, durability and ease of repair. I recommend getting a shop manual for it. It would show how to do all the things it will need to “come back to life”. Regarding value, I have seen them sell for around $1000 in similar condition as you describe. One thing to look for is rust, especially around the battery area. Parts are readily available from several sources. I don’t know why someone here recommended against buying one because he thinks the “air cooled sound” is horrid. That has nothing to do with what you asked. Good luck and have fun.
