A great and must read article: 68 dodge charger
Q: what all parts do i need to replace a heater with a/c to just a heater in a 68 dodge charger?
i have a 68 charger im working on it was an original a/c big block car but not an r/t the heating system was destroyed and i don’t have the money to put the a/c back in so i wanted to know what all i need to just put a heating system in with no a/c, i know i need a new heater core but what else
A: change the heater box and control unit to one that doesn’t have air and that will solve the problem, the heater boxes are fairly cheap for the ones that didn’t come with air on them, its the ones that came with air that cost so much,if you change all that you,ll also have more room under the hood on it,a friend of mine has one that we took the air off it and changed it over, and you cant tell it never came without air on it,good luck.
Q: can you have 69 and 70 charger tail lights fitted to a 68 dodge charger?
can you have 69 and 70 charger tail lights fitted to a 68 dodge charger, because i like the front of the 68 charger but i prefer the the tail lights of the 69 and 70
A: with enough work and cutting on the car anything could be done to it,but you will ruin the original value of the car if you do that to it,good luck.
Q: Does anyone know where to find 68 dodge charger parts?
i have a 1968 dodge charger and i am looking for the front fenders, right door and hood.
A: Have you tried www.recycler.com?
I found a lot of good muscle car parts for Mopars on there.
Q: is it possible to build a 68-70 dodge charger frame? or what other vehicle frames would work?
im looking to rebuild or restore and make a 69 dodge charger r/t general lee, ( not a show car one that i can beat and race our tracks) is there any frames that would mount a charger body on or does anyone have specs and steps on building a frame ?
A: the don’t have a solid frame under them, they are all uni frame cars, you won’t be building no frame for a charger, you can mount the body of that car on an 82 dodge ram truck 4×4 though, but they look like crap and you have to lift them up,it literally ruins a good charger to do this to it,good luck.
Q: where is a 68 dodge charger handbrake.?
where is a 68 dodge charger handbrake.and can you use it for racing handbrake turns ,also it it as easy to use as it is on a modern car.
A: The ‘68 Charger did not have a handbrake, a small pedal against the left kick panel applied the “emergency brake” also known as the parking brake. It was released by a small handle attached to the bottom of the dash almost directly above the parking brake.
With a properly setup Charger and an excellent knowledge of your car’s handling characteristics, a handbrake is not needed to drift, all you need is big cubic inches/horsepower and a four speed transmission to put the car into over steer. We did it back in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s . . . . 35 years before the “Fast and Furious” crowd.
Q: 68 dodge charger top speed?
does anyone know the top end speed of a dodge charger 68 to 70 440 rt
A: one of the ones i built about two years ago would bury the speedometer hand ,and it was accurate also,i was clocked doing 138 in it,got a nice ticket for my efforts also, they dropped the speed down to 80,so the judge would go easy on me,lol,i was moving on before i seen the blue lights, but don’t do nothing like that i was to brave that night, good luck.,,PS my wife made me get rid of both my cars, and i miss both of them, they was really fast.
Q: Are 68-69 dodge charger grilles interchangeable?
Is it possible to switch out a 1969 dodge charger grille with a 68 model one?
(I dislike the 69 grilles very much, too many dukes of hazards look-a-likes, and because I like 68 grille and 69 taillights.
A: Yes, they did that all the time on the Dukes of hazzard, the grills are interchangeable.
Q: 68 dodge charger steering…NOT GOOD?
I have a 68 dodge charger, and the steering is vague and unresponsive, in other words CRAP I know this is a trait of muscle cars from that era, so I was wondering how I could fix this, is it possible to replace the steering box with an old 90s $2000 dollar bmw or are there more compatible options that would dramatically improve this and make it as responsive as a modern car.?
A: you can also upgrade it to one from a cordoba they had real good steering and are still around and easy to find, good luck.
Q: 68 dodge charger or 2003 BMW M3?
I have a 440 engine and a charger 68 shell in my garage, that none of my mates know about .i have i real passion for chargers and mopar engines.one of my mates just bought a fairly ne M3 .which will make the unvieling of my charger (when its finished) not as impressive.can i compete on speed with an m3 with if i invest money into hot rodding my engine .?
and also what would you guys prefer and why?
A: Go with the Charger. It’s one of the manliest cars ever built. Make sure it has a good paint job, and the interior is clean and good-looking. However, above all else, make sure the engine performs correctly. Check every wire, lead, switch, and pump before you do anything. Then fill ‘er up with all the various fluids and start it up! Have your friends come over, and watch as you M3 driving friend wets himself in jealousy.
Oh, and tell your friend his M3 makes him look like a cock. I’ll bet he wears a bluetooth headset, the freak.
Q: looking for a 68 to 70 dodge charger project car?
living in the woodlands texas area, im looking for a 68 to 70 dodge charger one that needs to be restored, i will be happy with just the body and must have a title. anyone in the conroe, huntsville, houston, or any area know where i can find one. i have spent hours already driving around trying to locate one, i know these cars are out there any help will be good. thanks
A: There are several currently being offered for sale on eBay Motors, but even the really tired examples can command at least $5K. Remember “The Dukes of Hazzard”? The Chargers they didn’t prang on that show have already mostly been restored.
it would be easier to find a budget car by looking for the 1966-67 models. or the 1971-74 examples. Another good choice might be the Dodge Coronet of the same vintage
Q: which one is better 68 dodge charger,69 dodge charger or the 70 dodge charger?
A: overall the same car uni-body drum brakes leaf spring rear suspension, as far as looks the 68 and 69 way out do the 70 I prefer the 69 but the 68 tail lights and markers look better. hmmm…69 grill on 68 car……..
Q: Does anyone have a 68 dodge charger for sale or know anyone that does that is under 10 grand?
A: It’s possible, but don’t assume it’ll be in pristine running condition. If you find an inexpensive one, chances are you’ll wind up sinking a lot of money into it. We’re talking chassis, engine, body, interior, electrical, you name it. Think corrosion: removing/replacing floor pans, frame rails or entire quarter panels. Finding replacement parts for the ‘68-’70 models is not a problem, they’re out there all over the place.
I’ve seen decent smallblock ’68s go upwards of $15k on eBay. Expect a big block in good condition to command $20k +.
I’m not trying to discourage you, but be careful in your buying decision. If it needs serious work, determine if you have the time, energy & budget for such a project. Buying one “cheap”, then putting thousands into it may not be your best option. It’d be wiser to spend extra money on one in good running condition that has a sound chassis/body. You’ll pay more upfront, but your overall costs will be lower in restoring it. Plus you can still drive it in the process.
Good luck!
Q: Does ne1 know where I can find a 1967 or 68 Dodge Charger R/T 440 on the east coast?
it the general lee model
A: I always thought the original General Lee was a ‘68, not a ‘67 or a ‘69. They used a number of 68’s and 69’s for the series, but they. They used a 69 in the movie, but the long running series was a ‘69, now that I look back at some of the episodes.
A good place to start is e-bay motors and the b-body pages on moparts -> http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=B&Number=3670795&page=0&fpart=all
There are a couple on moparts ranging from 25K to 115K.
When looking for this kind of car, you’ll have to go where the car is, if its not where you are at.
Q: dodge charger handbrake 68?
where is a 68 dodge charger4 speed handbrake.and can you use it for racing handbrake turns ,also it as easy to use as it is on a modern car.
A: it is a foot operated pedal hanging down to the left of the clutch petal, a lot of them were removed on the 4spds because they were in the way and no they are not strong enough for brake turns as they only operated one brake shoe in the rear drum brakes
Q: 68 dodge charger?
I want to know is the Charger and Road Runner the same car?
A: Here is the real deal on these cars:
Both the RR and the Charger are based on the same platform (although their wheelbases may be different). However, they were cars targeted at different markets.
The RR was Plymouth’s bare-bones hot rod. Meanwhile, the Charger was Dodge’s specialty coupe that could be tailored for someone who wanted to cruise in style or hit the dragstrip. Hence, the Charger could be equipped as an economy car with the Slant Six or a full-zoot racer with the 426 Hemi.
Here’s a list of analogous cars for the two brands:
Plymouth/Dodge
Road Runner/Super Bee
GTX/Coronet R/T
The Charger was a specialty car that had no Plymouth equivalent.
